The goal of the WSIZ business support is to enhance the growth of cleantech companies, jobs, and incomes through business development and expansion of the markets for products and services that conserve resources and prevent pollution in the Wheaton community.

Our Services

Small Business Support 

To support existing Wheaton-based companies in their efforts to become more sustainable, the WSIZ will host companies each through a series of workshops that will introduce businesses to a range of sustainability-related concepts.  

Programming is available to community residents at a free or reduced participation rate to help sustainability-driven founders create new businesses rooted in Wheaton and serving the local community and entire county. 

Entrepreneurial Assistance

In addition to small business support, the WSIZ team is also working to expand entrepreneurship training, mentoring, and technical assistance programs to grow green businesses in Wheaton. 

Founders and business leaders will be invited to access resources to support sustainability-driven founders within Wheaton’s under resourced communities who seek to launch new STEM-focused climate-tech businesses. 

Montgomery County Green Business and B Corp Certification

The goal of the WSIZ is to shepherd business owners interested in the Montgomery County Green Business and B Corp certifications through the application and certification processes.

  • Montgomery County, Maryland’s Green Business Certification Program is a voluntary recognition program designed to encourage businesses and other organizations to take steps that reduce their ecological footprint. Earning Green Business Certification indicates that you are part of an innovative leadership movement to green your business operations and help transition to a sustainable future.

  • Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by the non-profit B Lab™ to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Our programs leverage B Corp standards and certification to help businesses improve their impact on people, communities, and the planet. As a B Lab Local Mid-Atlantic Partner, WSIZ partner, Bethesda Green is certified to teach businesses about B Corp Certification and assist with the certification process.
